“Where to?” I asked.
“The car park. Jean-Pierre’s van is parked there. We have to use the tradesman’s elevator.” There was a decided distaste to his voice.
Michel led me through a number of cinder block corridors until we came to the old goods elevator. Because he had insisted on taking the heavier load, I pressed the button for him. The elevator grumbled to our floor, where its doors wheezed open. It was crowded with trolleys as well as battered cardboard boxes from some half unloaded delivery. We barely had room to move.
